“Justice Delayed is Justice Denied:” Long-Awaited Decision in Massachusetts Case Delayed Once More

July 01, 2022

Today, for the sixth time, U.S. District Court Judge Douglas Woodlock once again delayed issuing a decision in automakers’ lawsuit challenging Massachusetts’ expanded right to repair law.

As put best by Paul Roberts, founder of Securepairs.org, in a new piece, it is “long past time for Massachusetts car owners to begin enjoying the rights they are entitled to – and the benefits of robust competition for vehicle service and repair.”

Justin Rzepka, executive director of the CAR Coalition, described today’s delay as “a blow to Massachusetts drivers struggling with high gas prices, supply chain shortages, and rising repair costs,” underscoring the need for Congress to take action to “promote competition and choice in the automotive aftermarket,” according to Boston Business Journal.

Ultimately, it’s federal legislation that will be critical to upholding a broad range of right to repair protections for car owners – including the Right to Equitable and Professional Auto Industry Repair (REPAIR) Act and the Save Money on Auto Repair Transportation (SMART) Act.
